Fatima Mid-Autumn (Moon-cake) Festival

The Fatima Family gathered for this years Mid-Autumn Festival at Fatima Hall with a big pot-luck feast of home-made dishes and deserts, not forgetting the moon-cakes! There delicious yam-rice, yellow pulut with curry chicken, fired rice, delicious pot-chicken rice, beehoon, satay, chai kuey, steam yam cakes, Ten-fruits' salad, and even a genuine Korean Glass-noodles dish! Today happened to be Jln Kuala Krai BEC coordinator, Marianne's birthday and as the Happy Birthday song was sung, she made her wish and cut the beautiful cake. After the sumptious dinner, young and old carried lanterns and took hundreds of photos with their cameras and smartphones. There was ball-room dancing for the adults, lantern procession for the children and the high point of the celebration was singing and games ably coordinated by a friend of Gerard Yeo. Indeed  it was a memorable night for all present!

Fatima Parish Annual Picnic

Coming back to one of our oldest tradition - our Annual Parish Outing,  today over 60 members of the parish, half of which included children and youths of the parish converged on the beautiful virgin breach of TEMBILA after Bukit Keluang in Terengganu. It is about one and half hours drive from Kota Bharu. Starting around 7.15 am, we arrived at Tembila Beach at 8.45 am. The beach is just right for a picnic, with clean golden sand and gentle waves in the blue bay. Right opposite we can see the South China Sea and the silhouette of Pulau Perhentian! The bay is enclosed and backed by rocks and a steep cliff at the back, making it a cozy place for a picnic.
We started the day with our usual Friday weekend mass, right on the beach in the open-air, followed by breakfast before making a beeline  for the water. Young and old alike, played like little kids in the sea, having fun while the youth were playing water polo. There were fun and games on the beach with tugs- of-war and Fr. Robert even allowed himself to be buried in the sand! While some of the  older parishioners sat around chit-chatting, the parents of younger children were busy, keeping a watchful eye on their offsprings. The weather was fine throughout the day. After lunch and a further dip in the sea, it was time to pack up and after a final group photo session, the weary but happy picnickers bid farewell to Tembila Beach which will be remembered by us in many years to come, as a wonderful Parish Outing of 2014!

Fatima Parents' Day Celebration 2014

On the Feast of The Sacred Heart of Jesus, which symbolizes the Love of Jesus for us, we also celebrated Fatima Parents' Day for all parents of the Parish. A Combination of both Mothers' Day and Father's day which we normally celebrate on the 2nd Sunday of May and the 3rd Sunday of June respectively, today the children of the parish are reminded to the honour and love that they should give to their parents. After Thanksgiving, the simple program started off with 2 poems recited by Isobel Lai and Adrian Yeo. All parents were then invited to the Altar to receive a special prayer and blessings from Fr. Robert. The highlight of the celebrations was video with an old favourite song of the 50's - "Papa, He loves Mama" . All parents and guests were treated to a breakfast of 'Nasi Lauk'. Let's pray for all parents that they will guide their children and bring them up in their Christian faith, to love the Catholic Traditions of the Church.

Tai Chi Exercises for All

Exercise is good for you. Parishioners of Our Lady of Fatima can now participate in physical activities like playing a game of badminton, learn ball-room dancing or do Tai Chi Exercises or do all three every Monday night!

Thanks to Dr. David Pereira for teaching us Ball-room dancing (Tonight we were learning to Samba, keeping up with the Brazilians World Cup, to waltz as the elegant dancers of Johan Straus to the Beautiful Blue Danue, to jive or rhumba or do the irresistable cha-cha)

Following the ball room dancing exercise (you really sweat, I assure you!) you can slow down a bit, but you will still sweat, but be healthier by learning to imitate the gracious movements of Tai Chi led by Mrs. Shirley Bates. Ask Noel Clement who is a regular and faithful trainee. He uses the Tai Chi Excercise as a warm up to his next excercise - playing a game of badminton with Fr. Robert, Francis Lai, Philip Tiau, and Gerard Yeo and others.
