St. Joseph's Chapel, Kuala Krai: Post-Flood Cleaning up

Today,  a group of parishioners from Kota Bharu together with some from Kuala Krai, got together to clean up St. Joseph's Chapel almost a month after the flood waters receeded. The flood waters in Kuala Krai rose up to the first floor of the Chapel, and did a lot of damage to the interior and its furnishing. All furniture had to be removed and the interior of the chapel given a thorough cleaning.
Thanks to Gerard Yeo, Philip Tiau, Charlie Choo and their wives and children and Mr Kam from Kuala Krai for their hard work. May God bless you all and your tremendous effort. Further cleaning is still required next Friday, and Sr. Jackie is calling for help from the university and college students.

Fatima Flood Relief 2015

In compliance with Bishop Sebastian Francis directive, the Fatima Flood Relief Team coordinated by Sr. Susan Thomas fmm began operations last Friday, 2nd January 2015 with two vans carrying the first consignment of basic post-flood necessities such as food and water to outlying districts of Tanah Merah, Tumpat, A second consignment arrived on 6th January 2015 and was also distributed to other affected areas in Kuala Krai, Gua Musang, Tumpat and Pasir Mas. Unloading and repacking of donations was held in Fatima Hall with many helpers, young and old. Thank you to all the donors especially the SSVP from Kuantan. Thank you to all who have come forward to help in carrying out this gigantic relief work and all who have given their time and energy. May God continue to bless our efforts to reach out to the flood victims as we carry out our mission!

Dear Fathers, Religious Brothers, Sisters and People of God.

Re: Mass Collection for the flood victims in Kelantan

Greetings of Peace and Compassion on this Feast of Epiphany!

It is only appropriate that on this Feast of the Epiphany and as we continue to celebrate Christmas, we remember our brothers and sisters who are affected by the recent floods in Kelantan. As one family, I appeal to you for your support and contributions towards helping the victims of the recent floods in Kelantan and in particular for our Catholics and others who are affected badly at the Church of Our Lady of Fatima of the Holy Rosary, Kota Bharu and the area whre our Chapel of St. Joseph in Kuala Krai is situated.
Thus, in solidarity with those affected, I request that on the Feast of the Baptism of Jesus which is on 10th and 11th January 2015, the first collection for all the Masses celebrated in the Parish, Chapels and Mission stations, be sent to the Diocese of Penang for this outreach the following week.

Please be informed that Sr. Susan Thomas, FMM will coordinate this mission outreach with the help of the Parish Pastoral Council and will disburse this relief fund to them after the floods have subsided. As the Administrator of the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima of the Holy Rosary, with effect from 1 January to 31 December 2015, I will work closely with the team and give the necessary help to those affected with your contributions rather than channel the funds through some organizations. In this way, I hope that we can help as many people as possible directly according to their needs.

Jesus' Baptism marks the beginning of His public ministry and mission. In line with this, the Peninsular Malaysian Church theme for 2015 is also 'Discipleship: Mission towards Transforming Humanity" and this sets the direction for us to participate in this mission at the beginning of the year. And so, I thank you in advance for your generous contributions.

Please continue to pray for all those affected by this floods and also for those who are going out of themselves to reach out to them. We do not forget also to pray for those who are affected by the missing Air Asia jet. May God continue to protect all from any harm and danger, and comfort all those who are afflicted!

May you have a peaceful and grace-filled New Year with a renewed spirit for mission!
