The theme for this Year's Feast Day mass is
"Mary: Woman, Mother, Disciple". October is the month of The Holy Rosary, and we celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, reciting the rosary and meditating on the Glorious Mysteries.
In his homily,
Fr. Robert reminded us that all of us are born for a purpose which we are to fulfil in our lives. We have to find out how we can fit in the niche and discern how we can fill up 'the pockets or holes' reserved for us by God. History has given us many examples of men and women who discovered their roles in life. Mary found her purpose in life by responding to the will of God. Today she is honoured,as the
Mother of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour. She is an example of a perfect
Mother and
disciple of Jesus, faithful to the end, standing by Jesus at the
foot of the cross. Devotion to Mary is not worshipping her. Worship is reserved for God only.
Devotion is respect and honour given to Mary for her special role as Woman, Mother and Disciple.
When we pray to Mary, we are saying, "Make me a true disciple like Mary, to stand faithfully by the cross." Our spirituality are mere ritualistic practices if our devotion does not make us true disciples" he concluded.
Today's mass also marked the beginning of several innovative changes in the liturgy, During the prayer of intercessions, for each intention, a period of personal silent prayer is observed. This posture of prayer -whenever silence is observed is the time to pray- will lead us to a closer relationship with God. During communion, the choir will lead in reflective Taize chanting/singing.
We thank the youth choir under the leadership of Sr. Jackie for the beautiful uplifting singing and music. To all the Flower Ladies, thank you for the beautiful flowers.
Most of all, we thank God for continuing to watch over us as we celebrate the 64th Anniversary of the Parish, and we are grateful to all our priests and pastors who help to build up this Church of our Lady of Fatima of the Holy Rosary.
