Last night was the Fifteenth Day of the Eighth Lunar Month, which the Chinese and other Asian Communities celebrate as the Mid-Autumn Festival. Traditionally, it is a time of family reunions, and thanksgiving after the harvest has been collected, the people gather on the night of the full moon to celebrate.
Beautiful Lantern splendidly lighted up! The line of children follow their self-appointed " Youth" Leader' Philip Tiau who explains that it is to let the children remember this Mid Autumn Festival and how this tradition is celebrated by the Chinese community with a reunion pot-luck and lots of mooncakes. The round mooncake is shared by all reminding us of our unity in mind and heart.
Sounds of laughter and shouts of "Lang, lang gia teng lang, Hueh-hueh gia teng hueh!" (in Hokkien) meaning, "People, people carrying lighted lanterns; Light-light, carrying lights" a double line repeated as the children carrying lanterns walk in procession.
The Mid-Autumn event was organized by the BEC's leaders for Telipot and Jalan Kuala Krai.
