Sr. Molly conducting the Ecology Session on Saturday, 6th April 2013
The 1st session was entitled: ' Scripture and Christian Ecology & Stewardship'
Sacred Scripture states that:
a) God created - Gen 1: 11-12, 20-21
b) God blessed - Gen 1:22
c) God protected - Gen 6:19-21/ Gen 7:8-10
d) God made a covenant with different species. Gen 9:8-10,12-13
What does Scripture tells us about Creation?
The participants were divided into groups to read, reflect and share on what the Bible tells us about God's creation and our duty to protect and keep God's creation safe from every misuse and guard against every kind of greed. (Lk 12:15)
After the tea break, the participants watched video presentations on various topics related to the environment and ecological impacts of disposal of garbage, bottled water, plastics etc on the environment. One interesting question was asked of participants, Why did God created mosquitoes and snakes? We learnt that these 'pests' was part of God's plan in keeping nature and life in balance. Every creation of God has its positive role in the Ecological Web. Each species has a role to play, none is useless. The famous quote by Chief Seattle in 1854 "Human beings are merely a strand in the Web of life" sums it all.
