Fr. Michael Teng ofm, celebrates mass

This weekend, Fr. Michael Teng, ofm, came to celebrated mass for us. He has been installed as 'Custos' of the Franciscan Community in Malaysia, and the parish celebrated with him on this occasion. At the end of mass, a cake was brought forward for Fr. Michael to cut, in appreciation of his service to the community. He also prayed for students who were sitting for exams and we also bid farewell to 4 young matrikulation students who were finishing their studies in Kelantan. Tokens of appreciation were given to them.

Lenten Campaign 2019

After Friday mass today, 2 presenters from Penang Diocese Pastoral Institute came to share on the Lenten Campaign this year, with the emphasis on the theme"Evangelisation". She shared her experience on the youth evangelization and how to live our lives fully  in the spirit of Christ. Many young people were touched by her sharing.

KB Combined Churches Workshop 20197

16 members of the parish, students as well older members participated in  training workshops organized by the Kota Bharu Combined Churches committee, spearheaded by the Christian Businessmen group at Pantai Cahaya Bulan (PCB) Resort from 3.00 pm till 11.00pm.

Participants attended 4 different workshops on Leadership, Leading a praise and worship service, and blowing the shofar workshop. It was interesting to note that groups from different churches were able to combine together for praise and worship, which began from 8.00 pm - 10,00 pm.

Indeed we are indebted to the management of the resort who allowed us to us the rooms and halls for this sessions.

Chap Goh Meh 2019 Celebrations

This year's Chap Goh Meh was organized by the young people and besides eating and drinking also tried to bring out the meaning and practice of this auspicious celebration. Traditionally, young ladies would throw oranges into the river or sea, to fulfil her wish of getting a good husband. Hence the youth organised a fishing of oranges from a large improvised water tank for young and old to fish out their lucky oranges. Before the fishing, all members had to write their wishes on their orange and throw it into the tank. It was quiet an interesting departure from the normal tradition of coming together to celebrate Chap Goh Meh, that is 15 days after the Chinese New Year.

Liturgical Formation Session 2019

The Liturgical committee today organized a formation session for its members and interested parishioners. The theme of the session was on the Mass and dos and don'ts in general for liturgical ministers.The 2 hour session was conducted by Dr. Beth Baikan who has a certificate in Theology and is a lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan. It was an eye opening session on the Mass and participants learnt to appreciate the sacrifice of the mass, the memorial of the last supper left behind by our Lord, who continues to give himself to us through his Body and Blood. Learning to appreciate his gift of himself to us, to treasure the meaning of each part of the mass.
Grateful thanks to Dr. Beth for sharing her knowledge and experience with us. We bid her farewell as she returns to her home in Kota Kinabalu.

PARISH FEAST DAY 2018

PARISH FEASTDAY 2018 CELEBRATION –

68^TH  Anniversary of the Church of Our Lady of Fatima

This evening, for the second  time a procession was held in honour of Our Lady of Fatima in Kota Bharu. To commemorate the 101^st  Anniversary of the Apparition of Our Lady at Fatima, Portugal, the parish of Our Lady of Fatima of the Holy Rosary celebrated its 68th Parish Feastday with rosary, mass and a procession – for the second time.  Led by Fr. Jude Miranda, and Fr. Francis Andrew, the beautifully decorated float of our Lady set out on a 4 kim walk from the Church towards the city centre, along Jalan Kuala Krai, past KB Mall, and along Jalan Sultan Ibrahim until we reached the Clock Tower before turning back at the roundabout. In their steps, followed about 250  parishioners, and visitors.

The celebrations started at 5.00 pm with recitation of the rosary, and litany to our Lady, followed by mass which was concelebrated by Fr. Jude Miranda and Fr. Francis Andrew.

Immediately after mass, the pilgrims and parishioners joined in the candlelight procession, praying the rosary simultaneously in BM and English.  Voices singing  "Ave Maria" were heard after each decade of the rosary.  The procession finally arrived back at the church after almost one hour and 15 minutes.  Benection and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament by Fr. Francis followed.

In his speech to the congregation, Mr. Gerard Yeo, the Parish Pastoral Council Chairman, thanked Fr. Jude Miranda and all who had come to  join us in our celebrations. He also thanked all the parishioners who had worked tirelessly to prepare for the Feast Day, in particular, he singled out Philip Tiau who helped to build the float, Primus and Laura and the flower ladies, Mrs. Shirley Bates Gina Sanchez Lai and Marianne Lim, who decorated it and coordinators of the various committees, A big thank you to the KCCS and Youth Choir under Dr. David and Max and also all the altar servers under Nicholas Martin. We are grateful to our parish priest, Fr. Francis Andrew who inspired parishioners to “Let Mary be Known” which was the overall theme for this year.
