On this beautiful morning, over 30 diocesan priests, 2 permanent deacons and 2 Bishops graced the Church of Our Lady of Fatima of the Holy Rosary, Kota Bharu to celebrate the Penang Diocese Chrism Mass with the theme, "Reaching out with Hope".. This was a historical moment in the Parish and the whole mass was broadcast by live streaming through the internet. Never has the church seen so many priests congregated. After the homily, the Bishop led the priests in the Renewal of Priestly Promises followed by the blessing of the oil of the sick, oil of catechumans and consecration of the Chrism. The jars of oil was carried in procession by 3 priests. This was the first time, parishioners witnessed the blessing of Holy oils, which were then carried to the Agape room to be distributed to the parishes. After the post-communion prayer, the assembly was addressed by the Parish Pastoral Council Chairman, Mr. Gerard Yeo. He thanked the Bishops and all the priests and deacons and guests for their presence in this 'small church of ours'. He shared that the preparations for today's momentous event had taken over 2 months, and thanked Fr. Francis Andrew and all the members of the various groups and sub-committees of the parish for their hard work and unfailing service. In his response, Bishop Sebastian Francis remarked, "Small is beautiful!" thanked Fr. Francis Andrew and parishioners for the warm Kelantan hospitality.
After the mass, the priests were given a bag of tokens and treated to a sumptious breakfast of a variety of 'nasi bungkus' of nasi dagang and nasi kerabu and other Kelantan delicacies. All parishioners also joined in the fellowship.
Today will be remembered and treasured as the first Chrism Mass to be celebrated in the history of the Parish in all her 67 years.
